I have always wanted my own business.
When my mom provided me a small
inheritance, Gifts By Janis
was born. I have a natural
creative ability inherited
from my mom. The best Christmas
I can remember was when I personally
made gifts for all of my family.
It was such a pleasure to see
the happiness I brought to
them. That’s what I want
to provide to my customers.

Mentors:
My mom was an entrepreneur
without even realizing it.
She never held a job but
raised her family and earned
extra money by sewing, baking,
and crafting beautiful things
for neighboring friends and
family.
My father who taught me that life is not always easy, you have to work hard to fulfill your dreams and provide for your family. (He was a coal miner in the mountains of West Virginia.)

Hate is a strong word. I do not
hate anything. I dislike waiting
in long lines at the store.
I dislike disorganization and
not being able to find what
I am looking for. (I guess
I am a little impatient).

spend more time with my family.
Most Influential People:
My Mom - who taught me how to sew and create beautiful things. She taught me about love, generosity and counting the simple things in life.
My family - without their support and help I could not achieve my dreams. My sister Jean who has been there every step of the way to help me through the hard times and keep me motivated.
Last but not least my husband Kenny - for putting up with the long days and late nights while I work to make this dream a reality. He has been my anchor and kept the faith that we can do it.

Business Future:
We started as a small home based
business. This year we
expanded into our new shop

continue to grow. One day I
hope to have a vibrant company
to give my granddaughter to
run. She has inherited that
creative talent. She is only
7 so we will have to work on
